Arroz de Valencia PDO
Arroz de Valencia / Arròs de València
Protected designation of origin for white or brown rice of named varieties — Sénia, Bahía, Bomba, Albufera, J. Sendra and others — grown in the coastal wetlands of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante, much of it in the Albufera Natural Park.

What the specification says
Admitted varieties are Sénia, Bahía, Bomba and its analogue Bombón, J. Sendra with its analogues Copsemar 7 and Argila, Montsianell, Gleva, Sarçet, Albufera, Campanar PV, Regina and Hispasur. Average raw-grain lengths range from 5.2 mm (Bomba, Albufera) to 6.0 mm, with length-to-width ratios of 1.7–1.9, and average amylose from 16.3% (Sénia, Sarçet) to 25.6% (Albufera). The dimensions on this page are an estimate within that range.
The rice grows in marshland soils that are calcareous, clayey and alkaline. The Albufera Natural Park, 21,120 ha, has rice fields over 65% of its surface. Local practices include eixugons, draining the fields for a few days in late June to control algae, and flooding during the winter fallow.
