A registered Basmati

Under Pakistan's specification, Basmati may be grown only from varieties registered under the Seeds Act 1976 that have a traditional Basmati variety or landrace in their breeding lineage. Super Basmati was approved in 1996 (notification of 26 June 1996) and is listed there with Basmati 370, Basmati 385, Basmati 515 and others.

Milled samples collected across Punjab in 2016 averaged 7.83 mm long and 1.86 mm wide.
