Purple meets Hom Mali

Crossing began in 2002 at the Rice Science Center on Kasetsart University's Kamphaeng Saen campus, joining KDML105 with Jao Hom Nin, a local non-glutinous purple rice; more than 10,000 F2 plants were screened over about four years. Unlike KDML105 it is not photoperiod-sensitive, and it matures in about 130 days.

The breeders give grain lengths of 11 mm in the husk, 7.5 mm as brown rice and 7.0 mm polished, and amylose of 15.6 %; no width is published, so the width here is estimated. They also report a glycaemic index of 62 from clinical tests.
