Nimba and WITA 9

AfricaRice identifies Nimba as the local name for WITA 9 in Côte d’Ivoire and records cultivation in Niger, Uganda and Senegal. Its description also reports a consumer-preference study in Côte d’Ivoire. That research concerns specified markets and cannot be treated as a universal taste ranking or current market-price premium.

What the seed record establishes

Niger’s 2021 catalogue describes WITA 9 as an indica pure line for irrigated and lowland environments, with medium-class grain. It lists breeding and registration separately. This entry retains that grain class and uses an estimated diagram. It does not treat the older regional catalogue’s inconsistent 9.30 mm grain figure as a trustworthy polished-kernel measurement.
