NERICA-L-39
A separately identified lowland NERICA line with Asian and African cultivated-rice ancestry. Niger’s national catalogue records NERICA-L-39 as registered there in 2010, with medium-class grain.

Two cultivated-rice species
NERICA is a family of breeding products rather than a single cultivar. AfricaRice explains that the programme crossed Oryza glaberrima with Oryza sativa and distinguishes upland lines from lowland NERICA-L lines. NERICA-L-39 therefore has its own identity and an explicit interspecific ancestry label. General claims about all NERICAs are not automatically assigned to this line.
A line documented in Niger
The national register attributes NERICA-L-39 to ADRAO breeding in 2003 and records registration in Niger in 2010. It describes irrigated/lowland adaptation, medium grain and a 135-day sowing-to-maturity cycle under the register’s conditions. Those agronomic observations do not establish an amylose number, fragrance or a kitchen cooking time. Kernel dimensions remain clearly marked illustration estimates.
