Nangeng 9108

南粳9108

A Jiangsu japonica cultivar listed as released in 2013. It is a separately identified low-amylose rice, not an alternative spelling or lot of Nangeng 46.

Location: Jiangsu, including Gaoyou, People's Republic of China

A distinct grain profile

The 2024 comparison reports polished-grain means of 4.680 mm in length and 2.896 mm in width, with apparent amylose of 11.90% in its sample. The grain diagram uses these published dimensions. A measured sample is useful for comparison but does not establish an invariant specification: milling, production conditions and the material selected for analysis matter.

Comparing named Jiangsu rices

The study lists Nangeng 9108 as a 2013 release from Jiangsu’s lower Yangtze production region. In a separate pilot study, the authors used commercial material from Gaoyou and compared its cooked texture and volatile profile with five other japonica rices. These are research comparisons, not a universal ranking of consumer taste or a household cooking protocol.
