Nangeng 46

南粳46

A low-amylose japonica cultivar from Jiangsu in the lower Yangtze region, listed as released in 2008. Published comparisons distinguish its short, broad polished kernels from longer-grained rice types.

Location: Jiangsu, lower Yangtze, People's Republic of China

Measured polished grains

A 2024 comparison reports polished kernels averaging 4.831 mm long and 2.920 mm wide for its Nangeng 46 sample. Those measurements, rather than a generic japonica drawing, determine this entry’s grain illustration. The study measured apparent amylose at 12.33% in the tested material. That is a sample result, not a guarantee for every growing season or commercial lot.

One named cultivar from Jiangsu

The same study identifies Jiangsu and the lower Yangtze as the sample’s production region and gives 2008 as the release year. A separate 2022 texture-and-aroma experiment obtained Nangeng 46 from Nantong. Both papers compare named cultivars under specified laboratory methods. The entry does not turn a measured volatile-aroma profile into an unsupported fragrant-market classification.
