Spunta
A large, long yellow potato from the Dutch breeder J. Oldenburger, introduced in 1968. It is a fresh-market all-rounder, valued by growers for its yield and its tolerance of heat and drought. Its breeder's rights have expired.

Origin and breeding
Spunta comes from a cross of BEA with the American breeding line USDA 96-56, made by J. Oldenburger under the seedling number Oldenburger 57-88. The WUR Potato Pedigree Database gives 1968 as its year. Agrico notes that the breeder's rights have expired, and both Agrico and HZPC still publish growing advice for it.
It is a parent of Mondial.
Tuber and kitchen character
The tubers are large and long-oval, with yellow skin and light yellow flesh. HZPC gives a dry matter of 19.9 % and classes it as cooking type B, slightly mealy; Agrico gives 21 % and "floury / BC". Both sheets place it in the traditional fresh market rather than processing; Agrico rates its fries quality as average and its crisping quality below average.
The two sheets also differ on maturity: Agrico calls it early maincrop, HZPC medium late. Both rate it susceptible to late blight in foliage and tubers.
