Koopmans Blauwe
A blue-skinned, yellow-fleshed Dutch heritage potato bred by C. Koopman at Bennekom from Zeeuwse Blauwe x Alpha, crossed in 1927 and introduced in 1937. On heavy clay it gave a well-flavoured, sufficiently floury potato.

Origin and character
The 1960 Rassenlijst, quoted by CGN, gives Koopmans Blauwe as a cross of Zeeuwse Blauwe and Alpha, made in 1927 by C. Koopman of Bennekom and introduced in 1937. The WUR Potato Pedigree Database gives the same cross, names the breeders as C. and J. Koopman, and lists a later mutant, Koopmans Bonte (1954).
It ripens at about the same time as Eigenheimer and has well-formed, blue-skinned tubers with yellow flesh, slightly oval and fairly shallow-eyed. On heavy clay it gave good yields and a well-flavoured, sufficiently floury potato of pure colour; on lighter soils it was often too firm and less tasty, and it was not suited to sandy soils. It was little susceptible to late blight in the tuber but very susceptible in the foliage.
