Origin and character

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) records Estima as bred by J.P. and P.R. Dijkhuis at Warfhuizen from the cross Oldenburger 51-640 x G3014, and released in 1972. The WUR Potato Pedigree Database gives the cross as Nopol x G 3014 and the year as 1973.

The tubers are large and oval, with smooth buff skin, very shallow eyes and light yellow flesh. CFIA describes a medium dry matter, a firm cooked texture and a moderate fry colour, good for cooking and frying. It is very high yielding and resists drought, bruising and growth cracks, but is very susceptible to powdery scab and potato cyst nematodes.
