Asterix
A red-skinned, light-yellow-fleshed Dutch potato with a high dry matter, crossed in 1977 at Sint Annaparochie in Friesland and released in 1991. CFIA rates it excellent for frying, and it is grown for both the fresh market and French fries.

Origin and character
CFIA records Asterix as bred by BV de ZPC from the cross Cardinal x SVP Ve 709 at Sint Annaparochie in 1977. The WUR Potato Pedigree Database lists the breeder as Ropta-ZPC and the year as 1991.
The tubers are oblong, with flaky red skin, shallow eyes and light yellow flesh. CFIA describes a high to very high dry matter and a fairly firm texture with little discoloration after cooking: excellent for frying, good for baking and boiling. It stores well and has good resistance to tuber late blight, though it is moderately susceptible to blight in the leaves.
