Sierra
An aromatic US long-grain cultivar developed for a basmati-style market. USDA describes commercial handling as both milled and brown rice in its 2010 bulletin.
Basmati-style does not mean a protected origin
USDA places Sierra among varieties intended to compete with imported basmati-style rice. It identifies aromatic long grains and describes both conventional and organic cultivation, with milled and brown products. Sierra is kept as a named US cultivar rather than folded into basmati as a broad category. The displayed drawing represents an estimated milled kernel; a brown-rice package retains a different outer layer.
