Rondo

A US long-grain cultivar developed from a Chinese accession in the USDA rice collection. USDA’s 2010 bulletin describes its use in rice-flour and rice-drink markets.

Location: United States of America

A collection accession becomes a cultivar

Rondo’s history connects a germplasm collection with a commercial processing market. USDA describes a Chinese accession selected into a shorter, earlier-maturing plant suited to US production, with disease resistance and weed competitiveness. The bulletin records both conventional and organic production. Its flour and rice-drink uses do not imply that every package is processed in the same way.
