Khao Sangyod Muang Phatthalung
ข้าวสังข์หยดเมืองพัทลุง
A red-pericarp, gently fragrant rice from Phatthalung in southern Thailand, protected in the EU as a Protected Geographical Indication; it is sold as brown or semi-milled rice.

What the specification requires
The protected rice must be grown from the Sangyod Phatthalung variety, a photoperiod-sensitive lowland rice, using seed from the Thai Rice Department or approved sources. It is sown in the southern wet season (August–October), harvested at ripening between December and February, and dried, milled, packaged and labelled within Phatthalung province.
The specification gives semi-milled grains of 6.40–6.80 mm by roughly 1.6–1.8 mm (the dimensions used here), light red, and brown grains of 6.50–6.90 mm, red to dark red. It notes that the variety grown elsewhere gives thicker, less red grains.
